Use password protection with care. The encryption used to password
protect your organizer is the published RSA Security standard for public
key cryptography (PKDS #5 v2.0 - MD5 hashed password based encryption
with DES). There is no easy way to recover a password if it is lost.
ZipXap Technology, LLC will not be able to recover your data if you
forget this password. We have placed no back doors in our security
system. To be clear and blunt; A lost password will result in lost
data.
Since a forgotten password means lost data, a password hint can be
specified whenever a password is specified. Password hints are
mandatory, but you can place jiborish here if desired. Be mindful when
setting this password hint. It should be something that will assist you
in recalling your password, but it should not provide clues that can be
used by a snoop to determine it.
The organizer, as a whole, can be password protected. Using this
option, no portion of the organizer will be accessible without having
the correct password. The user will be prompted when an attempt is made
to open the organizer. If the user clicks [CANCEL] or enters the wrong
password 3 times, the organizer gives an error message saying, "The
organizer could not be opened", and ZxApp IT aborts the request to open
it.
To password protect the organizer, select File->Organizer Properties
from the main menu, or click the
icon
in the toolbar. At the bottom of the General
tab, shown in Figure 5.2.1, there is a "Password Protect" checkbox.
Check this to enable password protection. The Set Password Dialog box
shown in Figure 5.2.2 will appear. The Set Password dialog requires you
to enter a password twice, and provides a text-box for entering a
password hint.

selected.

password.
Once the organizer has been password protected, the current password
will be needed to change any password settings. If an attempt is made
to uncheck the "Password Protect" checkbox, the Enter Password dialog
box will appear to confirm that it is the password creator's request to
disable password protection. Likewise, to change the password, the user
must enter the old password before ZxApp IT will allow the user to
change it.
Until a password protected node is unlocked, it will reveal only its
name, and nothing else. It will not reveal any sub-nodes. Its content
is not available to the database, and will not appear in searches. It
cannot be moved nor deleted. If an attempt is made to select a password
protected node, the Enter Password dialog box will appear. If the user
clicks [CANCEL] or enters the wrong password 3 times, the organizer
gives an error message saying, "The organizer node could not be opened",
and the editor disappears from the main window.
To password protect a node, right-click the node and select the
"Properties" menu option. Alternately, the user can select File->Node
Properties from the main menu. At the bottom of the dialog
there is a "Password Protect" checkbox. Check this to enable password
protection. The Set Password dialog box similar to the one shown in
Figure 5.2.2 will appear. The Set Password dialog requires you to enter
a password twice, and provides a text-box for entering a password hint.
Once the node has been password protected, the current password will be
needed to change any password settings. If an attempt is made to
uncheck the "Password Protect" checkbox, the Enter Password dialog box
will appear to confirm that it is the password creator's request to
disable password protection. Likewise, to change the password, the user
must enter the old password before ZxApp IT will allow the user to
change it.
The act of entering the correct password in the Enter Password dialog
box unlocks a password protected node. The contents of a password
protected node will remain available to the user, the database, and for
searching, for the remainder of the time it is open in ZxApp IT, or
until the user chooses to relock the node (see the next section).
If for some reason you need to re-lock a node, right click the node and
select "Relock Node" from the pop-up menu. Now the node will return to
a locked state, revealing only its name and nothing else.
